Based on speaking with some others, I have a feeling that Luders
numbered their hulls in a series which may have included other hulls
than just L-16s. The 'Racing Number' is I am sure the official sail
number, which would be limited to just the L-16s.

The placement of the plaque is interesting. You are the third person
who has said that theirs is in the cabin, on the deckbeam beneath the
cabintop. Others have the plaque on the aft cockpit coaming. Also,
there is apparently a hull number in the wood, forward of the
forward-most floor timber, in the keelson, at least on some boats.

You say your boat was built in Newport Beach... that is also of
interest. Would you happen to have any documentation?
