1946 Luders L-16 sail number 100 is for sale. This boat currently requires a complete restoration. Originally named "Muffin" and purchased by A.G. Alexander in 1946 with a hull number of 810, she went through three other owners until 1959 where her history trail goes cold. She resurfaced recently with a New Hampshire registration decal from 1992, which I am currently researching.
The condition of this boat indicates that she was stored outside and neglected for what may be a period of ten years or so. The hull shows the common signs of isolated delamination at the deck junction points and also along the keel joint, although the general surface appears to be sound. The keel should be removed and the floor timbers repaired due to compression from the keel bolts. A new rudder needs to be fabricated as the original is damaged. The cabin top needs to be rebuilt due to rot in the area where it meets the deck. Much of the original hardware is intact although it does have an (incorrect) aluminum mast with a correct (repaired) wooden boom. Many of the repairs that she requires are documented in the recent WoodenBoat sidebar article quoting Jim Elk of Elk Boat and Spar shop in Bar Harbor Maine. I will gladly email photos to interested parties although a personal inspection would probably be better. The boat is located in Naples Maine, approximately one hour West of Portland.
The price is $3000.00 and transportation will be the responsibility of the new owner.
