[L16-usa] No Small Celebration

Lawrence-

Wonderful reply and the sort I would like to encourage more of from
other fleets. Adds a bit of spirit to the class. We need a little more
revving up.

60 years is no small occasional to observe and surely warrants some
special celebration and fuss. Might also, this be the 60th anniversary
of Luders 16 as a national class? This would be a great excuse to bring
us all in on some cooperative project, but with Chicago the special star
for having the oldest active fleet.

Perhaps a slender commemorative book might be in order with brief
histories of all the fleets over the decades. Photos included. We are
fortunate in Bob Wallstrom as a Luders company resource. He, perhaps,
could give a history of the various L-16 builders that have existed over
the years. In Maine's instance, I would be glad to send along a history
of the Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Sorrento and Southwest Harbor
fleets. None of this need be long. Such an effort would add moment to
this (now) senior class and give us attention beyond our diminishing
numbers.

It is my feeling that Luders 16's are sufficient aged that we might now
begin to pick up new interest by cultivating a reputation as a "classic"
one-design, bringing in new people as similarly drawn to old cars and
houses. An interesting point to consider. We now celebrate our
antiquary status rather than constant updating.

Also, publishing list of things (winners, boats, fleets, etc.) are often
fine historical tools and give greater interest to a class.

GOOOOOO CHICAGO !!!!!

The 'national' mailing lists haven't really caught on within the Luders
community. I am told that regional mailing lists are active.

We created two 'national' mailing lists here on L16.org for the Luders.
One is this list, L16-usa, for general communications and discussion.
The other is L16-class. The idea with L16-class was to provide a place
for Class Association 'official' communications -- announcements and
such. L16-class hasn't been used too much.

Chicago will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of unbroken Luders 16
racing next year. I believe we are doing rather well.
