MAINE LUDERS REFURBISHED, FRENCHMAN'S BAY FLEET REVIVED

With the winter's refurbishing of Luders #256, ADAGIO, the Sorrento Yacht
Club's Luders fleet will be revived this summer. For several seasons, back
in the mid-1970s, a small fleet of Luders competed under the auspices of
this club, located on upper Frenchman's Bay in Maine. Two of these Luders
(Northeast Harbor nos. 10 & 24) have remained in local waters to this day.
On its arrival last summer, ADAGIO, frankly, looked a little worn. Under
Demilner's commission, it was completely redone in a thorough, if consuming,
way over the winter months. Now ADAGIO stands with the finest and, we hope,
will inspire other potential owners.

Early last summer Lawrence Demilner, of adjacent Hancock Point, had
purchased ADAGIO from an owner in Castine, Maine. Crewing on Mount Desert
Island Luders wetted his appetite for a little more local action. The owners
of the two remaining Luders readily agreed to revived racing as did
Sorrento Yacht Club officials. Later this week, another import is expected
to arrive from the Great Lakes to add to local numbers. It appears, too,
that two other Luders on the bay may occasionally come by to race. In
theory, this would make a fleet of 6 in all though all would not race
regularly.

Ludersdom will watch this revival with interest. We extend our thanks to
Demilner for his considerable efforts in the class.
