RE: New Orleans Luders Fleet and Beyond

Forgive this infidel, but it does seem curious that no one from the national
Luders organization has given us an update on the fate of the New Orleans
Luders. We know, of course, that their club house was destroyed and their
anchorage jumbled. I had made this query a few weeks after the unfortunate
hurricane realizing at the time that information might not be available for
an interim. Someone told me - though not from this list - that all the N.O.
Luders have been accounted for except one. What does this mean? Would a
splintered Luders 20 feet underwater be listed as "accounted for."

Now, some months later, this subscriber - as doubtless others - remains
curious as to the fate of that fleet. Were any Luders destroyed? If so, how
many? Will the class race next season? I did find the results of a
post-hurricane Southern Yacht Club regatta, but no Luders were listed as
entrants. That sounds ominous.

Could our class president - John Lee, - give this Luders news-group an
accounting of our fleet there? As that is his home fleet he would be best
acquainted with its status? If not, Lee, than anyone.

This is sure to rumple officialdom, but it would be nice if our national
Luders website was updated abit. Seven fleets are listed as "Active L-16
Fleets."
So far as I know the Indian Harbor Yacht club fleet has not raced Luders for
some years. Ditto the Royal Bermuda YC. Curious about our fleets, I
corresponded with an officer of the Wood Hull YC - he says only one Luders
remains in its membership now. I could not find the Eichenlaub YC at all.

However, the Eichenlaub YC, on the West Coast, regularly sends a
representative to the nationals. This is good. But it would be nicer if
this list were to hear more about them. How many Luders do they have, as
example? Do they actually race them? How about an occasional report?

Should not someone in authority in Ludersdom communicate with this list once
in a while? The Mount Desert Island Luders fleet has made an effort to send
in race results, a list of boats, the occasion accounting of an event and
even announcements of new boats. The new fleet on Frenchman's Bay, Maine,
too, has been visible on their pages. The rest have been, if not silent,
than very close to it.

I think there is more to being a Luders officer than simply showing up each
year at the national championship. We Luders people, especially those in the
provinces, are eager to see a more active presence. With a new year, 2006,
looming, perhaps Mr. Lee will give a State-of-the-Class report by January.
This might include an accounting of 2005 and hopeful plans for 2006. (If,
indeed, there are any plans at all.)

Our Treasurer, if there is one, could give a tiny report of the tiny Class
coffers.

Our Secretary, Lisa Bergall, I think, promised a report of the annual
meeting. This was a long time ago. Where is this?

Who is our Webmaster? Could he not consider updating the WebPages?. Perhaps
a list of officers and their e-mail address could be added.

Who is in charge of this newsgroup? A brief annual report would be nice.
I, for one, am curious how many subscribers there are. Could things be
arranged to exchange the occasion photographs? Ask us for suggestions?

The Luders flagship is leaking and luffing and lurching and....
